أنشئ برنامج المنح الصغيرة الذى يموله مرفق البيئة العالمية، ويديره برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائى، فى عام 1992 ، بهدف تقديم الدعم المالى والفنى لمشروعات صغيرة على المستوى المحلى فى الدول النامية لصون وإعادة تأهيل البيئات الطبيعية، مع تحسين الأحوال المعيشية فى المجتمعات المحلية.

"Established in 1992, the Small Grants Programme (SGP) is funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/Global Environment Facility (GEF). The SGP is providing financial and technical support to small local projects in developing countries to promote conservation and restoration of the ecosystem while enhancing well being and livelihoods.
